PERFORMER

An experienced dancer, improviser, and performer for more than 20 years, trained in contemporary dance techniques, great skills in improvisation and dance contact, has worked in several well-known companies in Colombia and Canada.

L´EXPLOSE

In 1991, Tino Fernández founded L’Explose in Paris after an intensive period of research into contemporary dance. He later relocated to Bogotá, Colombia, where he formally established the company, continuing his work of consolidating dance-theater as a concept with greater depth and resonance.

The company was born out of a need for expression, weaving its creations around emotions rather than pure movement. As a result, its works are characterized by raw and forceful gestures, confronting reality directly and rejecting the codification of an intimate imaginary within an increasingly artificial society

Dance Theatre

Kaha:wi Dance Theatre (KDT) is one of Canada’s leading contemporary dance companies, founded and directed by Santee Smith (Tekaronhiáhkhwa) of the Kahnyen’kehàka (Mohawk Nation). The company is recognized for its innovative fusion of Indigenous and contemporary dance, creating a distinctive choreographic vision that embodies spirituality, storytelling, and cultural resilience.

Internationally acclaimed for its artistic excellence, innovation, and collaborative spirit, KDT electrifies audiences in Canada and around the world. The company was originally born from the encounter of two young dancers and their shared desire to create, adapt, and transform their environment to meet the needs of everyday life. Furniture, cabinets, discarded objects, clothing, music played on an old Revox, walls and painted surfaces—all became material for invention, play, and expression. More importantly, the company was built upon a foundation of friendship and affection, sustained through years of collaborative work.

In this spirit, OBJECT-FAX was founded in 1987 and formally established as an association in 1991 in Paris, by Colombian artist Ricardo Rozo and Swiss artist Jean-Claude Pellaton. The company’s work reflects a commitment to experimentation, transformation, and the creation of new forms of scenic expression.

NEWTON MORAES

Dance Theatre

Newton Moraes Dance Theatre is a company dedicated to the creation, performance, and production of contemporary dance works. Its mission is to explore, maintain, and develop the artistic links between Canada and Latin America, guided by the vision and knowledge of its founder and artistic director, Newton Moraes.

The company’s repertoire is especially rooted in the examination of Brazilian culture, while simultaneously seeking to expand the possibilities of contemporary dance through new forms of artistic expression. Its works often combine Afro-Brazilian influences, theatricality, and innovative choreographic structures, creating a distinctive voice within Canada’s dance landscape.

Internationally recognized for its cultural dialogue and artistic innovation, Newton Moraes Dance Theatre continues to build bridges between traditions and contemporary practices, offering audiences transformative experiences that celebrate diversity and resilience.

AMALGAMA

Alejandro Ronceria

Directed and choreographed by Alejandro Ronceria, with John Gerena as Artistic Assistant and dancer, Amalgama is an original creation inspired by the juxtaposition of drum culture and contemporary dance.

 

The choreography is built upon the percussion tempos of the Caribbean, Central, and South America, celebrating drumming as the heartbeat of culture and a testament to survival. For many communities, rhythm is not only music but also a ritual of resilience and a celebration of the human spirit.

Amalgama explores the complex transformations of rhythm and their impact on the human body, weaving together traditional musical forms, urban rituals, and contemporary dance. The result is a vibrant dialogue between heritage and innovation, where movement becomes both a physical response and a cultural reflection.
